The 2026 Summer Wonderland Ethnic Group Celebration was held in Guanshanhu district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, on Aug 8 - 9.
Featuring water-splashing festivities, music, cultural performances, and nighttime entertainment, the event offered visitors an immersive summer experience while showcasing Guanshanhu's scenic beauty and the rich diversity of local ethnic cultures.
The festivities kicked off on Aug 8 with a traditional water dragon ceremony. The Guanshanhu district mascots "Bulu" and "Shida" performed the dotting-the-eyes ritual for the water dragon, a traditional folk practice with a history spanning centuries.
The ceremony was followed by a lively water dragon parade, with participants and spectators splashing water on one another to share blessings for peace, happiness, and good fortune.

The event also featured a market offering Guizhou specialties, local snacks, and cultural handicrafts. Visitors sampled regional delicacies, such as rose-infused bean jelly and Guiyang-style fried potatoes, while exploring ethnic-inspired silver jewelry, batik products, and other cultural creations.
As night fell, a series of stage performances brought together local singers, musicians, and young performers. A street dance competition featuring ethnic culture further energized the crowd, followed by a bonfire party that invited visitors to dance and sing together.
By integrating traditional culture, tourism and entertainment, the event boosted summer tourism consumption while creating a platform for cultural exchanges and promoting a shared sense of community among China's ethnic groups.
