Community services make life breeze for Guanshanhu residents

A community in Guiyang's Guanshanhu district is improving the daily lives of its residents through a new service center that combines an affordable community canteen with a summer childcare program.

Located in Jinxinyuan Residential Community of Jinyang subdistrict, the Xiangli Shishi community canteen has become a popular dining spot for elderly residents, local families, and outdoor workers.

At lunchtime, the canteen is often filled with diners. Fresh ingredients are sourced daily from a nearby market, and the menu features affordable local dishes while also offering lighter, easy-to-digest meals for older adults.

Sanitation workers, couriers, and food delivery riders can purchase a special meal for 9.9 yuan ($1.46), providing an inexpensive hot lunch for outdoor workers.

Seventy-year-old resident Hu Honghua, who frequently visits the canteen with his wife and grandson, said: "It's convenient to have a hot meal just downstairs without having to cook, and the prices are very reasonable."

The community also launched its summer childcare program on July 13 for children aged 6 to 12. Parents can register on a flexible daily basis rather than committing to long-term enrollment.

The program combines sports, nutritious lunches, traditional Chinese painting classes, and homework tutoring provided by student volunteers from Guizhou University.

Six-year-old participant Xiong Yichen said he enjoys the activities and learning opportunities offered by the program. "There are fun sports, interesting art classes, delicious meals, and volunteers who help us with our homework," he said.
