In recent years, Guiyang's Guanshanhu district has integrated the concept of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" into its development strategy. By balancing ecological protection with urban-rural integration and cultural empowerment, the district has created a vibrant landscape of "ecology, thriving industries, and prosperous communities".
Since establishing its "eco-friendly, garden-style" positioning in 2000, Guanshanhu has prioritized environmental preservation. Over one-third of the district's land is reserved for green spaces, with more than 200 parks scattered throughout the district. By 2024, the urban green coverage rate reached 43.39 percent, making the goal of "green within 300 meters, parks within 500 meters" a reality.
Meanwhile, the district has promoted green industrial transformation. The tertiary sector structure has been optimized, and by 2024, the green economy accounted for over 48.5 percent of GDP. The GEP accounting system has strengthened both ecological and economic outcomes, with GEP value increasing by 9.25 billion yuan from 2021 to 2023. Guanshanhu has also earned national recognition as a "Pilot Zone for Ecological Civilization".
Agriculture has embraced innovation through the rural "Three Transformations" reform and a "4+2+N" industry approach, combining land transfers with resource equity to create a "one town, one specialty" model.
By 2024, agricultural output rose 15.76 percent compared to 2021, with eco-brands like "Guantao Peaches" and "Quanshui Rice" gaining popularity. The Xiaolanshan Digital Cultural Industry Eco-Village blends natural scenery with creative digital studios, tea tourism, wellness, and film production, projected to generate over 1 billion yuan annually by 2025.
Rural environments have also been transformed. Through the "Five Governance" initiative, 98 percent of villages had access to sanitary toilets by 2024, and sewage treatment was available in all administrative villages. Attractions such as "Huizhou-style Courtyards" and "Strawberry Communes" have become popular rural destinations. The district now hosts one nationally recognized "Beautiful Leisure Village" and four provincial-level key tourism villages.
In 2022, Guanshanhu launched the "Enjoy Guanshanhu" eco-cultural brand, establishing June to August as the annual "Ecology Season". The initiative has hosted three editions, attracting about 60,000 participants and over 15,000 social media followers.
