Athletes praise Guiyang at IFSC Climbing World Cup 2025

The IFSC Climbing World Cup Guiyang 2025 kicked off at the Guizhou Caihu International Climbing Center in Guanshanhu district on Sept 12, drawing 68 athletes from 14 countries.

While competing at world-class standards, athletes were equally impressed by the beauty and vitality of "Cool Guiyang".

As the world's only Olympic-level climbing venue built within a city center and park – nestled inside Guanshanhu Park – the Caihu center wowed participants with its unique setting. "The wall in the park, the park in the city" received especially enthusiastic praise.

American coach Laurel Melton admired the city's scenery and hoped to return for deeper exploration. Kazakh climber Maimuratov Amir called Guiyang "wonderful", praising its architecture, cuisine, and hospitality. Fellow Kazakh athlete Damir Toktarov, visiting for the third time, said he feels "a deeper connection with Guiyang". Canadian and German athletes also praised the city's friendly people and pleasant training experience.

Christophe Billon, IFSC event delegate, noted that the spirit of climbing – striving upward and breaking limits – aligns with Guiyang's dynamic character. He stated that Guiyang's facilities, natural resources, and organizational strengths positioned the city as an emerging hub for world-class climbing and outdoor sports.

Beyond the competition, athletes enjoyed local specialties like siwawa and rosa roxburghii drinks, as well as lively carnival zones. The event served not only as a sports arena but also as a showcase of Guiyang's vibrant image, spreading the charm of "Cool Guiyang" worldwide.
