Nezha 2 has grossed over 6.2 billion yuan ($863.5 million), making it China's highest-grossing film. Its breathtaking visual effects were made possible by the Gui'an Supercomputing Center in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.
Operated by Gui'an New Area Science and Technology Innovation Industry Development Co, the center provides film rendering and real-time computing support. Since opening in late 2020, it has operated 715 servers, 1.3 petabytes of storage, and over 1,200 high-performance GPUs, achieving a peak of 30 Petaflops. To date, it has supported over 150 film and TV projects, including 27 in 2024 alone.
Powerful computing shortens rendering times and enhances visual quality. Nezha 2 alone features over 1,900 visual effects shots, massive battle scenes, and stunning new fantastical environments – all rendered with core support from the supercomputing center.
In addition to film, the center serves biomedical research, astronomy, new energy big data, and more, delivering roughly 28 million compute hours nationwide. Utilizing its role in China's integrated computing network, Gui'an is establishing a nationwide hub to boost the digital economy and industrial innovation.
