Chinese New Year shopping festival launched in Guanshanhu

The Chinese New Year shopping festival of Guiyang Southwest International Trade City was launched on Jan 15 in Guanshanhu district, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

The festival will last until Feb 9 and will offer leisure and entertainment options in addition to shopping.

The trade city houses a wide variety of New Year products, including specialty foods, household items, and decorations.

"In preparation for the Chinese New Year, we started stocking up early to ensure adequate supply and meet the needs of consumers. Compared with last year, the price of our snacks has been reduced by about 30 percent," said a merchant.

A variety of folk intangible cultural heritage activities will also be held during the festival. Visitors can experience many intangible cultural heritage items for free, including batik, sugar painting, dough making, and window grille cutting.

There will also be calligraphers writing Spring Festival couplets on site to give away to the public.
