A new environmental monitoring station opened in the fourth area in the Guanshanhu district of Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – on Jan 19.

The station will monitor the atmosphere, surface water, drinking water, acid rain, biodiversity, solid waste, organic matter, soil, noise and pollution accidents in the district, as well as in Xiuwen county and the Guiyang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone.

According to Guiyang Bureau of Ecology and Environment, the station is expected to remedy the bureau's shortfalls in environmental monitoring by integrating its current organizations, employees and capabilities.
