The Guanshanhu district disease prevention and control center – located in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – was officially unveiled on Dec 28.

The center has seven departments for comprehensive management, infectious disease prevention and control, immunization planning management, chronic non-infectious disease prevention and control, health education and promotions, public health monitoring and a laboratory.

It is responsible for Guanshanhu's infectious diseases prevention and control. It is also responsible for the district's response to public health emergencies, immunization planning, prevention and control of chronic non-infectious diseases, promotions for health education, as well as the monitoring of food and drinking water.

To improve the district's capabilities for disease prevention and control and the labs' capacity for inspections and examinations, Guanshanhu invested 98 million yuan ($15.44 million) to build a new building at the center.

The building started operating on July 31 last year and has 3,160 square meters of laboratory area. The lab is equipped with intelligent control and central monitoring systems to guarantee safety and security.

The lab is capable of conducting 92 kinds of tests – such as nucleic acid tests, food microorganism tests, intestinal infectious disease tests and water quality tests.
