The Guanshanhu district of Guiyang city – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – reported robust economic and social development in the first six months of the current year, at a meeting on August 13.

In the first half, the district's major social and economic indicators recorded some impressive gains: the gross domestic product or GDP in Guanshanhu hit 32.01 billion yuan ($4.92 billion), a year-on-year increase of 11.2 percent, while the added value of industries above a designated size increased by 42.5 percent year-on-year. Meanwhile, investment in fixed assets decreased by 25.2 percent compared with last year.

Guanshanhu's total retail sales of social consumer goods reached 14.37 billion yuan in the period, up 23.2 percent on the previous year.

The annual per capita disposable income of urban households was 23,077 yuan, a year-on-year increase of 11.5 percent, while that of rural households reached 11,841 yuan, up 14.2 percent.

In addition, other economic indicators stayed within a desired range. These included comprehensive energy consumption per unit of GDP, new energy consumption, emissions of major pollutants, carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP and the consumer price index, or CPI.

Moving forwards, it is understood that the growing sentiment is that governmental departments in Guanshanhu need to perform their functions capably, while adeptly combining ideas with their execution in order to build a better Guanshanhu.
