The D4938 bullet train, carrying 1,382 passengers from Guangzhou, arrived at Guiyang North Railway Station at 1:39 am on Jan 17, according to rail officials.

They said the first red-eye bullet train arrived at the station during this year's Spring Festival travel rush.

Trains running overnight are popularly known as "red-eyes" and officials said these bullet trains are usually put into operation to cater for a growing demand during the Spring Festival holiday.

Local railway officials said that the red-eye bullet train at Guiyang North Railway Station started operations in 2017. This year's operation time will last through until Feb 11 on six bullet trains running between Guangzhou and Guiyang.

Officials said transportation at night will be improved with better arrangement of bus and taxi in the Spring Festival travel rush.

The transport-related sections of Guanshanhu district will arrange about 2,000 taxis and two bus lines to transfer passengers every day. In addition, the district will provide waiting lounges for passengers of the red-eye bullet trains.
