Guiyang holds race to welcome New Year

A running event involving 2,000 participants was successfully held on Dec 29 at Guanshan Lake Park in Guiyang, capital city of Guizhou province, to welcome the upcoming new year.

The event was sponsored by the publicity department of the CPC Guiyang Committee, the Guiyang municipal bureau of sports, the Guiyang municipal bureau of education and the Guanshanhu district government.

The race has been held annually in Guiyang since 1972, as local residents look to start the new year off with an optimistic, healthy attitude. The full quota of 2,000 places registered in just one week after registration opened to the public, race officials said.

This year's event included a 6-kilometer casual run as well as a 12-km race.

Race officials said that a facial recognition system was used to capture the wonderful moments of participants, improving their experience and making the run even more fun.
